Maine Medical Center is seeking a patient centered, respectful, flexible, and detailed oriented Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician assistance to join our advanced heart failure team!

The Advanced Heart Failure APP is responsible for providing exemplary cardiac care with a strong focus on advanced therapies such as ventricular assist device and cardiac transplant. 

S/he works closely with physicians, and allied health professionals in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care which requires interfacing with many departments and agencies both internally and externally.  The APP manages all aspects of the patient's experience, care, and treatment plan from the onset of care (both in the inpatient and outpatient settings) discharge and managing ongoing treatment and follow-up. 

A strong clinical background in either cardiology or internal medicine is required.  Knowledge of advanced HF technologies and treatments is preferred but not required as the candidate will be partnered with our expert Providers, VAD and cardiac transplant coordinators, ensuring an exceptional onboarding experience.   

    • Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
      • ACNP – Current nursing license issued by the State of Maine or eligible for licensure or PA – Certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
      • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
      • Two years of Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant experience preferred but not required.
      • Current BLS certification.
      • Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing, professional nursing theory, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care, and professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing care.
      • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status, including state of wellness and compliance with care recommendations.
      • Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking and other organizational matters.
      • Ability to make responsible decisions within scope of NP of PA Practice.
      • Ability to educate patients, families, and staff in user-friendly manner.
      • Strong computer skills with skill in using computerized health information management system.
      • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, clinical staff and the public.
      • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
