If you are a Clinical Medical Physicist and interested in applying your skills in a progressive Radiation Oncology Team in beautiful Portland, Maine with a healthy work-life balance, then consider joining our great team at MaineHealth/Maine Medical Center. We are looking for a team player to join 3 physicists, one associate physicist, 7 physicians, and 4 dosimetrists. Ideally, you have 3+ years’ experience post residency and are board certified (ABR, CCPM, or equivalent) but exceptions for recent graduates will be considered.

Examples of current equipment/procedures offered at four Maine locations (two in Portland, one in Bath, one in Sanford) include:
•    Five Varian linacs: TrueBeam and IX (one IX to be replaced this fall with TB)
•    Three GE CT Simulators, 4D CT
•    Elekta Flexitron HDR / Oncentra TPS
•    ARIA / Eclipse / Velocity
•    ArcCheck, SRS Mapcheck, Portal Dosimetry for IMRT/VMAT QA, RadCalc, RIT
•    3DCRT, IMRT/VMAT, IGRT, IVBT, HDR GYN+Prostate, Superficial
•    SRS/SRT, SBRT, SGRT, HyperArc (to be commissioned this fall)

Position Summary

This role is responsible for quality assurance, acceptance testing, commissioning and calibration of therapy machines and treatment planning systems, as well as, the verification of design optimization, technical evaluation, precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans. Participation in clinical projects is expected.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: MS in Physics or Physical Science.
  2. License/Certifications: ABR Certification in Radiation Therapy Physics or Eligible. If eligible must complete ABR Certification within four years.
  3. Experience: Three plus years' experience in a progressive radiation oncology department and with preference given to experience working in a multi-site centers and special procedures to provide the following knowledge, skills and abilities.
  4. Extensive knowledge of radiation physics and clinical practices in Radiation Oncology.
  5. Considerable knowledge of equipment, machinery and materials used in the therapeutic areas of Radiation Oncology.
  6. Ability to supervise a staff of professionals.
  7. Knowledge of Dosimetry; fabrication of therapy devices.
  8. Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to Radiation Oncology, including NRC requirements.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with a wide variety of employees throughout the hospital.
