MaineHealth is currently hiring 2 Psychiatrists to work in an innovative, flexible, float pool model, in inpatient settings across Maine Behavioral Healthcare (MBH). These roles provide inpatient psychiatric care, working with a multidisciplinary team, including directing the treatment team and planning pharmacologic and therapeutic interventions.

Each position will be scheduled for between 30–40 weeks per calendar year, the amount to be determined by the Psychiatrist. This role is integral in allowing for continuity of high-quality patient care, across MBH, as it provides coverage to support the team during vacations, leaves or other times when additional staffing is needed. This is a great opportunity for Psychiatrists who are seeking wider experience, as it allows for the opportunity to work across facilities and psychiatric disciplines.  Additionally, this role provides very flexible scheduling, while also keeping compensation aligned with the market and receiving benefits, as it is a permanent position at MaineHealth (it is not a locum or per diem arrangement).  It strikes the balance between flexible scheduling, market compensation and benefits all under the MaineHealth umbrella.

We welcome applications from Psychiatrists who are interested in flexible scheduling and working in inpatient settings. This is an ideal role for those seeking opportunities to work in different disciplines, and at multiple locations, to gain exposure to all that MaineHealth and the State of Maine have to offer. Applications are encouraged from those who have recently completed residency and fellowship programs in the relevant disciplines, completed or will be completing their training in 2024 or 2025. We provide relocation and physicians are eligible for loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.

Desired Experience:

  • Education: Graduate of Allopathic or Osteopathic Medical School. Completion of internship and psychiatric residency and/or fellowship training.

  • License/Certifications: Current/Eligibility and valid license as a physician by the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, or be eligible for examination by the American Board as documented by written evidence. Board Certified or board eligible in general psychiatry. Current DEA Registration Certificate.

  • Experience: 3+ years experience inclusive residency and/or fellowship training.

  • Meet other credentialing criteria defined in Medical Staff By-laws.
