MaineHealth is seeking an additional full-time board certified/eligible Neurologist to join our Neurohospitalist team.  Primary inpatient responsibilities are at Maine Medical Center (MMC) in Portland, the state’s leading tertiary care hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center, and the region’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center.  Inpatient neurology is a teaching service with a growing Neurology residency started in 2020, rotating Tufts University Medical School students, and MMC Internal Medicine and Psychiatry residents.

The ideal candidate will have inpatient experience, strong organizational skills, collaborative and critical thinking, and have an interest in being part of a purposefully developed Neurohospitalist service. Fellowship training/special interest in vascular neurology or neurohospitalist experience is welcome but is not required.

Join us and you will find:

  • The state’s largest and most robust Neurology practice.
  • An ideal setting to gain experience and exposure to a variety of cases with the support of close-knit set of colleagues.
  • The opportunity to grow and develop teaching and research experiences through working with both residents and medical students.
  • A flexible on/off schedule with approximately fourteen 12-hour shifts per month.
  • Competitive pay and benefits package.

MMC has 700 licensed beds and admits approximately 1,000 ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients per year.  The Neurohospitalist program covers all general and vascular neurology consultations at MMC as well as telestroke consultations for our nine satellite telestroke sites.  Inpatient shifts are assisted by daytime nurse practitioner coverage in addition to neurology residents, rotating residents from other services, and medical students.

Portland boasts walkable urban density in a historic downtown area, including a nationally renowned culinary culture (Bon Appétit Magazine 2018 Restaurant City of the Year) and top 10 craft beer scene (Travel Channel 2021); abundant live music; a major art museum; and a beautiful working waterfront. The area provides four-season recreational opportunities such as skiing, hiking, boating, and miles of beautiful beaches. Just two hours north of Boston, this is an exceptional, diverse, and vibrant community.

Interested candidates may submit a cover letter and CV to Linda Wiley, Physician Recruiter at  linda.wiley@mainehealth.org.
