MaineHealth is seeking an outstanding clinician-educator to serve as the Medical Director for the Family Medicine Residency in Portland and as Medical Director overseeing both the Portland/Peaks Family Medicine Centers and the Falmouth Primary Care Practice.  These practices are the outpatient clinical sites for MMC’s Family Medicine Residency Program.   Falmouth Primary Care also houses internal medicine and pediatrics primary care practices, each with a physician leader who reports to the Medical Director.

The successful candidate will be Board Certified in Family Medicine with at least 3 years of experience.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate leadership, as well as strong organizational, teaching and mentoring skills.  Past practice management experience and knowledge of performance improvement is required.  The Portland and Falmouth locations provide care for about 10,000 patients each and offer a complement of services including physical therapy, sports medicine, addiction treatment, integrative medicine, and behavioral health services.  Both practices have been a NCQA level III PCMH for the past 15 years.

The Medical Director for MMC’s Family Medicine Residency is a key leadership role in the program.  The residency program has a regional and national reputation for excellence in family medicine training.  There are 22 residents, as well as a Sports Medicine fellowship, Integrative Medicine fellowship, Addiction Medicine fellowship and a Preventive Medicine residency within the department of family medicine.  As Residency Medical Director, this individual will provide both clinical oversight and teaching, including responsibility for ensuring residents attain excellent education in the quadruple aim, the components of high functioning teaching practices, and other key concepts of practice management. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring that the Family Medicine residency practices provide both exceptional patient care and outstanding resident ambulatory Family Medicine education. As a core faculty member, this individual will provide direct clinical supervision of Family Medicine residents and Tufts University School of Medicine-Maine Track students, and will participate in residency didactic teaching, advising and recruiting.

The Medical Director has a dyad partnership with an Administrative Director to oversee the operational aspects of the Portland and Falmouth Practices, including quality metrics and financial performance.  They also have a key role on the primary care leadership team working with MH Southern Region’s Senior Medical Directors for Primary Care, VP of Primary Care Practice Operations and other primary care Medical Directors in MaineHealth’s Southern Region.
