MaineHealth Medical Group, Portland is seeking a full-time, full-scope generalist obstetrician gynecologist to serve as the next Director of Complex Family Planning within the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology in Portland at Maine Medical Center (MMC). This position requires providing clinical care in both outpatient and inpatient settings as a full scope OB GYN physician.  Responsibilities will include in-house shifts covering labor and delivery and gynecologic emergencies.   Care delivery will be with your own outpatient panel of patients, major gynecologic surgery including minimally-invasive hysterectomy, full-scope reproductive healthcare delivery and supervision in the residency outpatient practices.

Current division members include physicians with focused practice designations in pediatric and adolescent gynecology, minimally invasive surgery and addiction medicine.  MaineHealth Medical Group Portland Obstetrics and Gynecology is a multi-specialty group of providers who offer sub-specialty health care services across the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology actively involved in research and education, as well as providing quality clinical care. In addition to the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology, sub-specialties include Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology, and Urogynecology. 

The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maine Medical Center has 32 employed faculty physicians and 16 advanced practice providers.  The MMC obstetrics and gynecology residency program, founded in 1976, has a rich history of training the Obstetrics and Gynecology physician workforce of Maine and supports 20 post-graduate trainees.  Maine Medical Center (MMC) serves as the flagship of MaineHealth’s integrated delivery system. MMC has 900 licensed beds across 3 campuses and is the state’s leading tertiary care hospital, performing over 3,000 deliveries annually supported by a Level IV NICU with 50 beds.   MMC supports a full complement of residency and fellowships training programs as well as integration with Tufts University Medical School.

 

Opportunity highlights and benefits include:

  • The physician will join our growing generalist division, currently composed of 10 generalists, 3 nocturnalists and 6 advanced practice providers, who provide care at Maine Medical Center and two outpatient locations. 
  • A full-time position offers a 4-day work week with in-house obstetrics & gynecology call an average of one weekend per month, and up to 2 overnights per month. 
  • This leadership position will oversee inpatient and outpatient complex family planning services, direct the family planning residency rotation, as well as coordinate residency and UME education in family planning. 
  • Maintain policies across the MaineHealth system to ensure compliance with guidelines and evidence-based care as it relates to family planning and promote awareness of family planning services.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Completed Obstetrics and Gynecology residency and board certified in general obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Followship-trained in complex family planning and subspecialty Board Certified/Eligible.
  • In addition to excellent clinical skills, the ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal communication, demonstrated leadership and operational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment in a large, dynamic health system. 
  • Strong interest in teaching (UME/GME).  The position involves an academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine.
