The Department of Pediatrics at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and Maine Medical Partners is seeking a BE/BC primary care pediatrician with fellowship training and experience in Health Services Research to join an academically focused Department and well-established outpatient practice located in South Portland. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to dedicate 50% of their time to conducting and collaborating on health services research and providing primary pediatric care 50% of the time in a successful, high functioning pediatric primary care practice. 

The successful candidate will become part of a community of Health Services researchers in the Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE), a center within the Maine Medical Center Research Institute. CORE’s mission is to conduct innovative research to understand and improve patient-centered outcomes, initiate and evaluate interventions to improve healthcare quality and safety, and support research through education, training, and mentoring.    

The South Portland Maine Medical Partners practice is a member of the MaineHealth Primary Care and Child Health Service Lines, which provide care for a diverse population of children across Maine and southern New Hampshire.  All practices utilize the same integrated EMR across the system, creating a wealth of child health data for both urban and rural populations.  50% research time for this position is funded through The Maine Medical Center Research Institute (MMCRI) depending upon the applicant’s experience.  The selected candidates will join 7 of the group’s 22 pediatricians, 2 counselors, a lactation nurse, a shared child psychiatrist, and potential other integrated specialists. 

The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, a 96-bed hospital within Maine Medical Center, is the tertiary medical center for children serving the state of Maine and southern and eastern New Hampshire with a busy Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Level 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Department of Pediatrics faculty in Portland and in 10 rural community sites is comprised of 196 Primary Care Pediatricians and Family Medicine Physicians, along with over 100 pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties that provide comprehensive services for children, including trauma care, surgery for congenital heart disease and renal transplantation.  

The Department of Pediatrics is an integral part of Tufts University Medical School.  The successful candidate will have an academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine at the Assistant, Associate or Professor Rank commensurate with experience. The position also involves teaching and mentoring residents, fellows and medical students from the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program. 

This primary care pediatric position will share well newborn rounding, night phone call and weekend clinic with 22 pediatricians.  We emphasize team-based interprofessional care in our practice.
