Maine Behavioral Healthcare (MBH) is seeking a Psychiatrist for a Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatric Services at Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) at their campuses in Sanford and Biddeford, Maine. This is an exciting leadership opportunity based in a brand new state-of-the-art inpatient facility.
The Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatric Services will oversee all psychiatric services at SMHC and all of its levels of care. This individual will lead an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists and advanced practice providers, perform psychiatric evaluations, follow up with psychiatric management, and direct care of patients in the following clinical settings:
- Inpatient Behavioral Health Units – 40 bed locked units in Sanford providing 24-hour treatment designed to provide care for adults in acute psychiatric crisis. A team of mental health professionals, including nursing, psychiatry, social work and case management, plan and work together with the patient to provide psychiatric care, medical treatment, support, and referrals for follow-up care. Individuals with medical conditions also receive medical consults from Southern Maine Health Care's Hospitalist program. Learn more about the units here.
- Emergency Department Acute Psychiatry Unit – provides 24-hour crisis intervention for patients at Biddeford and Sanford campuses and their Emergency Departments. A multi-disciplinary team of crisis workers, psychiatric health nurses and security staff perform comprehensive assessments and design treatment plans.
- Inpatient Psychiatric Consultation Service – supports the medical floors at the Biddeford campus.
- Intensive Outpatient & Partial Hospitalization Program – bridges the gap between inpatient and outpatient programs, providing an alternative to hospitalization for mentally ill patients who require more intensive treatment than outpatient office visits, but less restrictive than 24-hour inpatient care.
This role is expected to be 50% clinical and 50% administrative. It offers a very competitive salary and benefits package. This role is eligible to apply for a faculty appointment to the Tufts University School of Medicine.
